| Robert J. Caldwell is a shareholder in the firm's litigation department, where his practice focuses on business law and litigation, including matters concerning business formation, operation and control, contract, real estate and employment disputes, consumer financing and lender liability, products liability/wrongful death litigation, sports and entertainment law, and civil appellate matters. He is experienced as lead trial counsel in litigation matters in both state and federal court, but also often serves as local counsel for attorneys from around the country. He has successfully handled a number of civil appeals before state and federal appellate courts. |
| Mr. Caldwell received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Alabama School of Law (Tuscaloosa, Alabama) in 1999. In law school, he was a member of the Bench & Bar Legal Honor Society and the Editor-in-Chief of The Alabama Column. Mr. Caldwell was Alabama's representative to the American Bar Association (ABA) Law Student Division. He also studied comparative banking law at the University of Fribourg Faculty of Law (Fribourg, Switzerland). |
| Mr. Caldwell received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) in 1996. At Miami University, he was a member of the honors program, an Undergraduate Summer Scholar, the McMicken Scholarship recipient, and an ASG Student Senator. He was also a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity, where he was elected as vice-president. In 1995, he worked as a legislative intern for U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell in Washington, D.C., advising the Senator on matters of military and foreign affairs. |
| Mr. Caldwell is a member of the State Bar of Nevada, the Kentucky Bar Association, and the State Bar of Indiana (inactive/good standing). He is also licensed to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Courts of Appeal for the Sixth, Seventh, and Ninth Circuits, and the U.S. District Courts for the Western and Eastern Districts of Kentucky, the Southern and Northern Districts of Indiana, and the District of Nevada. |
| Mr. Caldwell is an active member of the leadership of the ABA's Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section, where he presently serves as the Chair-Elect of its Business Litigation Committee. He is a past chair of its Task Force on Outreach to Law Students and past Editor-in-Chief of the Business Litigation Committee Newsletter. Mr. Caldwell is also a member of the Sports Lawyers' Association and a Support Affiliate of the Southern Nevada CCIM Chapter for commercial real estate professionals. |
| Mr. Caldwell authored "Practical Considerations in Debt Collection," a 2005 article published nationally in the ABA/TIPS Business Litigation Committee Newsletter. He has also been a speaker at several continuing education programs, including the "Nevada Employment Law Update" for the National Business Institute in 2005. In 2008, he was a speaker at two national programs for the ABA Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section, "Planning and Taking an Effective Deposition" in Los Angeles and "Masters of the Courtroom: A Display of Innovative and Proven Trial Techniques" in Phoenix. |
| Mr. Caldwell is a native of Akron, Ohio, by way of Louisville, Kentucky. He volunteers annually as Santa Claus at Opportunity Village's Magical Forest and has twice served as a host father for international exchange students. In addition to English, he speaks Spanish and (limited) German. |
