Robert J. Caldwell is a shareholder of Kolesar & Leatham, Chtd. in Las Vegas, Nevada, concentrating his practice in business and general civil litigation, including contracts, commercial real estate, lender liability, products liability, international, intellectual property, sports and entertainment, employment (employer/management) and appellate matters. Mr. Caldwell regularly represents businesses of all types and sizes, including financial institutions, product manufacturers, technology companies, professional sports teams/athletes and commercial property owners and managers. He routinely serves as local Nevada counsel for firms located in other states and countries
Mr. Caldwell received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1999, where he was a member of the Bench & Bar Legal Honor Society and Editor-in-Chief of The Alabama Column. During law school, he also studied international banking and comparative law at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland. Mr. Caldwell received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Miami (Ohio) University in 1996, during which time he served as a legislative intern for U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell in Washington, D.C., advising the senator on matters of military and foreign affairs.
Mr. Caldwell is a member of the State Bar of Nevada, the Kentucky Bar Association and the Bar of the State of Indiana. He is licensed to appear before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Courts of Appeal for the Sixth, Seventh and Ninth Circuits, and the U.S. District Courts for the Western and Eastern Districts of Kentucky, the Southern and Northern Districts of Indiana and the District of Nevada.
Mr. Caldwell is an active member of the leadership of the ABA’s Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS). Mr. Caldwell currently sits as a member of the Section’s Governing Council and previously chaired the Section’s Business Litigation Committee and its Task Force on Outreach to Law Students. Mr. Caldwell has spoken at several national ABA/TIPS programs, including "Planning and Taking an Effective Deposition" and "Masters of the Courtroom: A Display of Innovative and Proven Trial Techniques." He also participated in the Section’s 2009 program in Beijing, teaching Chinese lawyers about the American legal system. Mr. Caldwell is also one of two national co-authors of West/Reuter’s upcoming treatise tentatively entitled "Handling Business Tort Cases."
In 2010, Mr. Caldwell was elected as a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation (limited to one-third of one percent of lawyers licensed to practice in each jurisdiction). Mr. Caldwell has also been named a SuperLawyers "Rising Star" in the field of business litigation, recognizing him as one of the top young business litigation attorneys in the region.
Mr. Caldwell volunteers annually as Santa Claus in the Magical Forest for Opportunity Village, a Las Vegas charity devoted to improving the lives of individuals with disabilities. He is a native of Akron, Ohio and grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. Mr. Caldwell speaks English and German.
